I’m Ready for Spring

There’s a cool breeze today. Our temperatures are warming. A familiar feeling is pulsing spring following winter in our northern seasonal dance between these annual partners who are doing their tango.

No more heavy coats. No more fear that underdressed kids will freeze on their way to school. Snowflakes drifting earthward have ended until next fall. Puddles have lost the crusty hardness to be just wet holes. The fragrance of the earth will quickly follow with a renewed pungency. Seeds will be bought. Soon, very soon, all of the cold will be forgotten. Replaced with a delicious warming of spring.

Resurrection Sunday is a spring day we usually call Easter when we are reminded of a mind bending event; the resurrection of Jesus from a cruel death. A historical event which causes our lives to blossom like dandelions yellow flowers spreading on a spring warmed yard. Since this personal spiritual development is going on in us then we can live with a newness to everything. Our faith in Jesus which frees us from the old ways has come.

We don’t have to fear being wrong, failing, dying or any other symptoms of sin.

Sin’s coldness is gone by Jesus’ love for us. I can disagree without hate. I will be your friend whether I like all your ways or not. I won’t leave you when I know you well enough to not like you. I will do the right things for the right reasons. I don’t need an outside law to govern me for I have an inside love from the Lord that compels me to right my wrongs. There are new possibilities in that old dirty life composting with a freshening that comes from our outside help, Jesus.

This Jesus brings more life and light into our lives. It’s like wriggling your cold toes in sun warmed sand on a beach of one of our many Michigan lakes. You know that level of comfort from Him and it transformed you. Your presence warms everyone since they receive a love from you which came from Him and any differences with others are bridged because He makes two different people part of His one body. And it’s done wherever Jesus is Lord.

When Jesus restores, refreshes, and completes you, nothing more is needed. He’s enough. Anywhere. Everywhere. Jesus has graced us with a paraclete who will finish His work in us, here and now.

I can’t wait to see this kind of spring to be sprung in all of us.
