What Are You Looking For?

Late February is a wonderful time of the year. The sun shines warmer as the month progresses. There are fewer storms. But when it does…whew! Sunrises or sunsets are all the more glorious against those gloriously winter blue skies. If we have snow it’s crusty. And crusty snow is a sledding paradise. What’s not to love?

Most people can quickly identify one problem; it is cold.

More folks will miss all the good for one obvious sore spot. Why can that happen to us? We love everything but…. Nothing is sweet anymore.

Finding contentment in all circumstances isn’t as hard as it seems when you give this advice to someone else. But, oh, how tough it is when we are in the middle of one of those situations which discolor the rest of a good life. We, I know this is difficult to believe, can magnify one discomfort into a life of disenchantment. So stop it. I mean it. STOP IT.

Counting your blessings is one way to stop it. If need be, record them one by one until you can see clearly again. By the way, does that sound like a song. Oh, that’s right, a hymn. We don’t sing hymns much anymore. There are no “hers” to balance out the discrimination. But if we sang a song reminding us to remember all the blessings, we might not have one distress collapsing our life like a strong wind upends a poorly staked tent in a storm.

Another way to stop it, is to pray to Jesus.

Cast all your cares on him.

Then let His peace transfer that pernicious weed of discontentment out of the garden called your life. How can you thank Him and not experience happiness? Some can. Some will. Not you. Just pray until you overcome that one negative experience or person in your life.

One last way to stop it. Start reading the Psalms until the author’s God transforms your thought patterns—a new heart transplant by taking in the Lord’s word until it saturates you into a resilient person. Nothing can get you down for long when you are shielded by the word of God.

What a nice way to live on these cold February days. You know March is coming. April showers are just around the corner. This means May’s flowers will be blooming before you know it. Hope is always there if you’re looking for it. Look for it.
